| Jim: I have just read your posting out to my 81 year old husband who attended the boys school from about 1934 and he tells me that Semper Sursum is 'Always Upwards' and quoted the school song as follows "Let us the sound of praise prolong and make a cheerful noise and let the school receive in song the homage of her boys. The years have not yet hallowed her yet she may proudlier stand if we a noble grace confer with head and heart and hand. Let us be glad that she is set amid her fields and trees hard by a Thames where osiers yet make music to the breeze. Be glad for each illustrious son of this our native place Fox, Hogarth, Heathfield, Burlington men worthy of their race. Then having here our heritage where lingers beauty still where men of old adorned their age let us their task fulfil. That we in all our work and play may honour this our school and Semper Sursum be alway our motto and our rule". This is as he remembers it but it is a very long time since he was last called upon to sing it!!!! |
