I believe the connection is with vanity fair and that more specifically Miss Pinkerton’s academy for young ladies was in Chiswick Mall. Indeed I believe outside the rather nice house set back a little between Church Street and Burlington Lane is where she is meant to have thrown her book. Although if she was meant to have thrown the book outside the academy (any great fans of Vanity Fair know the answer to this?) the geography is slightly wrong
