For once I have to agree with David Giles, he's historically right regarding the 1931 Coalition. The 'National Liberals ' were absorbed by the Tories after 1945 and the remaining Liberals (six or so), up until Jo Grimond's revitalization of the Liberals in the late 1950's, existed on the suffernce of the Conservatives who didn't put up candidates in their seats. But David, Labour wasn't submissive to the Trades Unions. If it had been the legal position pre 1979 would have been restored. Real wages would probably not have fallen so far and we might not be in a triple dip recession... |
