True, they'll come back again. But they now have to go back to square one. The consultation has been shown to be a sham and I understand the judge is asking the Government to sign a legally binding undertaking that it won't base future aviation policy on its 2003 White Paper. Their whole argument was predicated on the consultation and the White Paper, with a little bit of assistance from BAA's fantasy jumbos and the DfT's assertion that another airport the size of Gatwick could be bolted on to Heathrow with no significant environmental consequences. A temporary setback? Perhaps. But a huge one nonetheless. |
