"There seems always to have been an attitude amongst those who take this matter up of unquestioning acceptance of the mantras spouted by TfL as to why it is impossible." Not so. We have questioned them long and hard about ways of overcoming the signalling limitations before 2014. I've also discussed the issue with a number of LU/Metronet operations and design staff (including for example the engineer who designed the signalling for the new Wood Lane station). The signalling issue is a FACT, not a "mantra". "I personally would like to try missing out the Barons Court stop. replacing it with one at TG. The technology is presumably all in place." [sigh] Simon, you keep on raising this, and I and others keep explaining why it's not as simple as you suppose. No, the technology is not all in place. I refer you to my posts of 7 Feb 2007 and 5 Apr 2008. Essentially, Barons Court has more passengers entering and exiting the station than Turnham Green (in 2007 6.7M passengers/year against 5.9M for TG), so there is no case for doing the swap, and signalling changes would be needed at both stations. |
