Personally, no, but then again I’m not warming to any politicians as the majority appear to be career politicians with a severe lack of moral standing and only interested in power for powers sake rather than for the good of the country. For Brown et al to pretend that they had nothing to do with this so called crisis is being tad economical with the truth, as successive governments (starting with the Tories and continued with gusto by Labour) have relaxed fiscal rules governing the banks, and quite often given their implicit blessing to the banks to lend more and more to keep the consumer economy strong. Having said that, it is easy to look back in retrospect, but the so called prudent fiscal rules Labour set whilst Brown was in n0 11 appear to be anything but. I would support any politician who was honest with us, regardless of how bad the news was, and would like to see more politicians voting in the commons along with their consciences and according to their constituency wishes rather than tow the party line so as to keep their jobs and possible future peerages. Oops, that would mean a modicum of common sense and principles at least, which could possibly be an oxymoron when applied to politicians. Strangely, I think Darling has come out of this better, shame he seems to have the personality of a wet fish, although in private he could be a veritable bundle of laughs, we’ll just never know. |
