Big question. Getting the balance between too much democracy and not enough is the problem. Too much and everything takes a lot of time, costs a lot of money and often is a compromise. Not enough and people suffer, are oppressed, even more money is wasted on things that don't benefit people and although things get done quickly they can be the wrong thing. Looking at US politics I feel quite happy about our system. I would look to see more decentralisation and better computer systems (hey, it's my job, I see most organisations making the mistake of getting techies to design computer systems - bad mistake). One thing I'd add is proportional representation. |
