The section of road between Fishers Lane and Dukes Ave was the worst for cyclist casualties on CHR.
Closure of Fishers Lane should improve pedestrian and cyclist safety on CHR with a reduction of vehicles using this route.
A traffic survey showed that 90% of vehicles turning from CHR into Dukes Ave were driving straight through the area, mainly to the A4 but also cutting the corner to get to Sutton Court Rd avoiding the lights at Heathfield Terrace.
If this route was closed off, the volume of traffic using Dukes Ave would be reduced substantially and there may not even need to be traffic lights at the junction of Dukes Ave and CHR, just as there aren't traffic lights at junctions with other residential streets that aren't through routes to the A4.
