| E-bikes and e-scooters pay nothing to the councils for use of the pavement. Nor are they held to account for geo-fencing contraventions. This is why we see Dott and Lime bikes blocking the pavement in Chiswick where said cycles are banned. The pavement on the mall side of King Street has become an obstacle course with poorly placed seating and planters shoved amongst the existing bike racks, telephone booths (why these still exist are a mystery), trees and fixed street furniture. A bit of planning and foresight wouldn't go amiss. Nor would enforcement. All too often as you walk in either direction its safer and easier to walk in the cycle lane vs veering completely across the pavement to find a clear path that is often already being used by a bike or scooter in motion or otherwise. |
