Not saying it is optimal but going back via Trussley Road was significantly quicker and felt just as safe to a reasonably competent but not over-confident cyclist.

Shepherd's Bush Road wasn't that busy and we were doing a circular route so didn't head onto Ken High Street but there is always the option of dismounting and crossing at pedestrian crossing at the worst points if you are intimidated. The delays would be no more than some of the long phases along C9.

Brackenbury Village is already good place to cycle through but it still leaves you the wrong side of Hammersmith Grove. Where real improvements could be made is in the section between Hammersmith Grove and Shepherd's Bush Road but, as far as I can see it is a maze of dead ends and Tom is telling us that there is nothing to be done there. Maybe longer term some of the light industrial space will be redeveloped in a way that allows improved pedestrian and cycle access.

I do the trip to Hammersmith quite regularly and, even prior to C9 would have gone via Bath Road and Goldhawk Road etc. When C9 was operational to Goldhawk Road I did experiment with the CHR route a couple of times and it was considerably slower. However, probably not to the extent that someone starting south of CHR would find it worth their while to go via Bath Road.
