| There are pavements which are marked as shared between pedestrians and cyclists and these are often just marked with signs on posts with no difference evident on the pavement itself. These could be better marked but for those with poor and declining sight this is increasingly difficult to do successfully. I rarely cross except at lights or pedestrian crossings myself and would never encourage children to chance their luck crossing elsewhere - and as for parents/carers who push buggies ahead of them onto crossings... what a terrible risk and example. There is most definitely a problem with cyclists, scooter riders and motorcyclists completely thoughtlessly overtaking without considering that there is a reason for the vehicle/s in front to stop - and that the road may be blocked not just by that queue of traffic they are so keen to pass - but by pedestrians crossing or cars turning into or across the road.. It is a problem for us all! |
