| There has always been sufficient pavement space for all manner of signage for SMEs not to mention seating. Yet these businesses are charged extortionate fees to do so. Annually. Or in the case of Hounslow, twice yearly. They are paid for by the hard work of the proprietors or, in the case of something like High Road House, the billionaire owner/investor. Lime/Dott pay zero. Yes, charges to vendors often appear in the cost to the end user. Shocking. Commercialism. Consumerism. Been around for ages now. That "take up" trope is just that, a stale trope. The cigarette tax didn't really stop people. Nor did the gas tax. Plus, most cyclists are convinced they and they alone are saving the planet so I doubt with that conviction they'd start driving again if they were to be charged more for an e-bike or an annual fee for certification and registration. But cyclists do like free stuff. That we know. |
