Buses aren't the solution. They are far too slow. My journey to work would be 35 minutes by bus, allowing for the walk to/from the stop at each end. I can actually walk it just as quickly. It's normally 12 to 15 minutes by bike. Allowing for rush hour traffic it would probably be around 20 minutes by car. My wife's journey to work is longer. It would involve 3 buses, and add more than an hour to her working day. People aren't going to get out of their cars to go on buses. If I were to get the E3 to work, the High Road is only a very short part of the journey. Sutton Court Road, TGT, and the roads through Acton after TGT are never going to have bus lanes. Chopping a minute or two off of a bus journey by reinstating intermittent bus lanes isn't going to make a big difference. We have to reduce the number of unnecessary car journeys. 60% of car journeys in London are under 2.5 miles. That's the fundamental problem. If we get rid of the unnecessary cars, then the buses will move faster on the High Road anyway. |
