Well Mike at Top Hat had a whole list of reasons why trading was more difficult and it included not having all the shirts in for cleaning that he would have had while people were not going out to the office to work. Incidentally the fact that so many home owners are now installing shutters instead of curtains was not included but that must also be making a difference. People shopping during their working hours, lunch hours and flexi hour working would probably also not be there in such numbers at the moment. You seem to think that everybody has to have a car to shop and they don't - especially when it isn't a supermarket-type shop. They need space to queue on the pavement and they don't want to be crushed into a small amount of space in or outside a shop. There are definitely more people going out and about since the first lockdown. I'm told there are more people travelling on the tube. Shops that don't open early in the morning and later at night have been suffering for a long time and missing out on sales as supermarkets are able to open for much longer hours. |
