Reducing the width of roads to accommodate a handful of cyclists at the expense of ALL motorised traffic, public transport buses, emergency vehicles, taxis, delivery vehicles and cars, is just plain madness! There are some places where cyclists simply cannot go unless mixing in with other road users - Chiswick Hi Rd is one such. Of course someone - who? broke tfl or Hounslow Council? - could knock down all the trees, homes & businesses on one side and at least double the width of the Hi Rd. Seems a huge price to pay just so - how many cyclists? can pedal/race in safe splendor alongside a now dual carriage way from Kew Bridge up to Chiswick roundabout, along C.HiRd to King Street where Hammersmith Council take over. No guarantees they'd agree to continue with this drastic road-widening to where exactly? Would H&F want to inflict that on their residents and businesses though! Inevitably there would be an almighty traffic build-up stretching from Chiswick Lane, past the Bus Garage to the Goldhawk Rd/King St junction. Come on all you clever clog cyclists. Please explain how that is making life better? There is already a wide dual carriage way, the A4 with a cycle lane. Commuting cyclists use that and let casual local cycling shoppers take their chance in the mixed traffic that is Chiswick Hi Road. |
