David makes some excellent points, which show just how little engagement there is with local business in these schemes and why the narrow obsessions of some are so ill founded. These armchair musings from middle class professionals happily WFH are a million miles away from the real world and the harsh realities of commercial life. I appreciate Tony's clarity but am still left failing to understand the problem on TGT that is being fixed. TGT is bordered by two large and popular greens with open spaces and benches and the area around the fountain. What is the obsession with turning it into a pedestrian zone, and who asked the businesses and shoppers if they even want that. Where is the E3 meant to go and how do people access the areas busiest tube station, which at some point will also have a Pic line interchange. Even then, the practicalities of changing the whole of London to night deliveries are enormous and would raise massive outcry. Such restrictions would also mean the demise of some of the few still successful businesses on TGT that offer regular deliveries. |
