A quarter to a third of road space is more than "a little", especially at the expense of buses and emergency services - and implemented with a flawed post implementation consultation and certainly no information or process to test the efficacy of these sweeping changes against pre or post pandemic travel routines. There also seems to be a complete lack of objectivity around the temporary schemes being implemented. As a daily cyclist around Hammersmith roundabout, I am stunned the temporary cycle lane is still there. It takes up the entire inner lane and is never used. It is never used because you would need a death wish to want to use it; crossing three lanes of vehicle traffic just to get to it, and another three lanes to exit it. Reducing this roundabout's capacity by 25% is more than "a little"; it is significant if there is little or no gain to the measure for cyclists. I wish there would be more balance and objectivity from the pro-cycle route campaigners on this forum. The answer "more cycle routes, what was the question?" is so frustrating and will likely lead to a further shit show of substandard cycling routes across the capital. The design and execution of the cycle highway through Chiswick terrifies me - Just this week I've already spoken to someone who came off his bike as a result of the design and I witnessed another very close accident with a family of four heading eastbound. |
