Today it took 3 hours 40 mins for me to get from TG Station to Sainsburys and back by bus. E3 came along and we all got on. Then we were all told to get off. Bus stayed there with doors closed for a long time. Then doors opened and we all got back on plus more who had arrived. Bus full cards abandoned and all young folk upstairs. Then no moving forward at all since TGT and CHR completely jammed. Cyclists took to the pavements and fast food deliverers worked their way through on the wrong side of the road. One of them passed by the bus with only a few inches between me and the bus window. So we waved to each other and he drove on. No problem in Sainsburys. All quiet in there. Just missed a 272 bus back but no problem. Just walked on for a bit and doors opened for me to get on. Maximum number of passengers 14 but there were 29 of us. All masked and crammed in cheek by jowl. Inching forward very slowly with long waits. Fishers Lane totally jammed with buses, vans, lorries and cars in both directions. South Parade and Bath Road the same. If anyone wanted to get off the bus they could. The only good thing was that we all recognised that there was a crisis and we were all in it together for helping one another. No way could any emergency vehicles have got through. |
