Serious point. The Lib Dems have always been the most pro EU of the 3 main parties in England, therefore not only is their backing of remain 100% internally consistent, it is a fundamental democratic right. The idea that because a referendum was narrowly won 3.5 years ago means that the losing side are no longer allowed to express opinions or indeed campaign for what they see as right is autocratic demagoguery, the start of the slippery slope to dictatorship, and displays a breath-taking lack of understanding about democratic rights. It is no "betrayal" of anyone that they support remaining in the EU, rather their right to do so is the cornerstone of our democracy, just as you are 100% entitled to disagree with them & not vote for them if you don't want to. I find it slightly depressing that this needs to be explained, but there you go. |
