There is some right nonsense being posted here by people seeking to bolster a position, wrapped up in the guise of "principle". Be honest, there will NOT be a Lib Dem government after the next general election, any more than there will be eg a Monster Raving Loony one. The Lib Dems know that, the other parties know that, the electorate knows it, the dogs on the street know it. Therefore to claim that the prospect of winning such an election somehow establishes a mandate for such an action is palpably false, as well as ignoring the fact that people vote in an election for many reasons (health, education, economy etc), not just one of any given party's choosing. (That's what referenda are for, btw) And Swinson has the bare-faced cheek to lecture others about principle and democracy - the same Swinson who herself called for an in-out EU referendum in parliament in 2012: https://order-order.com/2019/09/16/jo-swinsons-brexit-referendum-u-turn/ "Pass the sick bag, Alice..." |
