Walking past this abandoned site at the weekend it seemed very depressing that it is just sitting there with weeds growing creating the impression that Chiswick is an area in decline. I understand the broader economic reasons why people are not going to be that willing to open a restaurant at the moment but the site would be a goldmine during the summer months if we get decent weather. Perhaps it is time for the Council and local councillors to get proactive and try and get something done about it. It would be ideal for a pop up cafe for a few months or it could be used on a cooperative basis by local cafes and restaurants to provide overflow outside dining during hot spells. Or even just for the Crown where the price of a few meals would easily cover the cost of tidying up the area. A friend did one try to set up a pop up cafe and she said that the bureaucracy made it nonviable so perhaps if the Council were to approach local businesses and say we really want something done here so if you can come up with ideals we'll expedite the licensing/planning process and try to keep the cost to a minimum. |
