Hi Davis, I agree insults are bad, and hopefully we can dsicuss these topics without resorting to them. Do I know things are going to turn out bad, with 100% certainty no, but probably close to 95%. Its really pretty simple, we can hold close to the worlds second largest market and some of wealthiest people on earth, which our major industries and service sectors are closely aligned and integrated with, or we dont. THe former position would leave things OK, the latter bad. May seems to be be increasing the EU hostility, her speaches now mirror Mail and Telegraph editorials. IF we fall out of the EU then the ONLY option will be the aggressive deregulation that Lord Lawson and the other Thatcherites are desperate for. BUt I dont think the UK population is ready for that, are you...? None of you seem to wnat to engage with these choices...? Regarding one of the earlier posts about our future in the EU. Well, since joining GDP per capita has increased by around 30% for the UK, France and Germany by 20% and Italy by 10%. So in the early 1970s the UK was the sick man of EUrope, with major economics problems and living standards well below thouse of the main EUropean economies. THat is no longer the case. SO memebership of the EU has been rather good for the UK, even the hit of the global fnancial crisis, since then the UK has been one of the fastest gorwing economies. So whilst there are many challenges in the UK< the overall economic performance has been good. NOr has membership of the EU stopped UK companies exportign around the world, the problem is we only have one domestically owned world class manufacturign company, Rolls ROyce. France, Germany, the US, Japan, KOrea have 5 or 10. THe only time the UK has been a great trading nation was when we had an EMpire and gun boats. The leading Brexiters appear to want to recreate that period, but I have yet to see one single credible plan for doing so.... I'm keen to see if those happy to leave have any ideas...? |
