'I do not want to argue with anyone yes I voted Brexit will it work not a clue' Well, this is a discussion forum, and discussing important topics can lead to, well, arguments. As to the second part, that kind of sums up the issue. Many leavers dont know how it will turn out, though some undoubtedly bought Boris's arguments that it would be simple and quick and we woudl get 'an even better deal'. Of course he was lying but that doesnt seem to matter. THere is simply no way that this coutnry will be better off past Brexit. None. THe only possible route to regain economic competitiveness will be the deregulating, low tax route so beloved of the Thatcherite right. THat will see even bigger spending cuts, probably the part privatisation of the NHS and the loss of many other public services. A painful transition that will even more ineqaulity and build resentment around the obvious targets (foreigners). I am afraid I cannot understand why some illusion of 'sovereignty', whatever that means, can compensate for making this and future generations of the country poorer. |
