| KI > "... with all the CONDITIONS attatched to membership..." There will be conditions attached to any new UK-EU deal. At present we don't have a clue what these are likely to be, but I'm sure we won't be able to have unfettered access to the EU single market without having to give something in return. It will not be surprising if there is some element of free movement of workers, contributions to the EU budget and compliance with EU regulations. It would have been helpful if this had been made clear during the referendum campaign - there are now a lot of very unrealistic expectations to manage. I think this is the reason why Gove and Johnson, at their press conference last Friday morning, looked more like they were attending a funeral than celebrating the birth of a wonderful new era. It also explains the lack of any immediate action to implement the 'will of the people'. |
