Given that this is across the borough, not just for "affluent " Chiswick and a bill for £50 won't be welcome from low income families but the recycling rate has to meet 50% by 2020 or pay huge fines how will this work out financially? Previously when we had to pay for biodegradable sacks there was very little garden waste recycled even in Chiswick. When "free" garden waste bags arrived they were all piled up for recycling. Sita had taken over the new contract with plastics in white bags, garden waste in green bags, electricals, textiles etc and couldn't cope at all. "They had underestimated the enthusiasm of the residents in the Chiswick area" They had to order more trucks and take on more staff. I recall going for walks and it was really astonishing with so much sorted and piled up but not collected. |
