At the last meeting of the Chiswick area forum, a planning officer showed a picture of a planning application to raise the height of a two storey house to the same height as that of its neighbours, left and right. The proposed design was absolutely in sympathy with the architectural style of its neighbours. The local residents' group WCGS, says that the current design would disrupt the traditional scale of other Victorian detached houses. It would be incongruous. Such an argument is absolutely untrue. To comply with the existing height of its neighbours cannot possibly be described as 'disruptive' or 'incongruous'. Good planning is guided by precedent and logic. Eccentric opinion - whatever its motivation - should have no part in our planning process and its consideration should be rejected. Let us stick to the facts and encourage sensitive private development initiatives. |
