Michael, I think you are quite right about my methodology in assessing the health risks of air pollution. I'm falling into the same 'well it didn't do me any harm' trap of people who advocate legalisation of cannabis. On the issue of cycling and air quality this was a secondary factor in me giving up on riding into work. The primary one was two close friends being seriously injured on their commute. However, as a contact lens wearer I did have significant problems when riding in traffic that I have never had when driving. It is perhaps noteworthy that the researcher held the measuring device outside the car during her tests. This perhaps means that car filters do deal with the worst of the particulates but, as you say there may be an issue with NO and NOx.
