Everyone is kind of missing the point about the prison in Jamaica. Building this prison will actually save us in the UK money - the payback period is two and a half years. Cameron is just showing good old fashioned common sense with this innovative idea as he has done with the Syrian refugees. Far better for both us and them that they remain in camps close to Syria's borders from where they can be quickly repatriated when the civil war is over. Whilst we are talking about historic reparations how about the Turks paying for the rape pillage and mass destruction across the area that is modern Hungary after the battle of Mohacs? There are many other examples - the Norman/French after 1066 and the Harrowing of the North, the English in the 100 Years War and the Swedes in the 30 Year War. The list is virtually endless. No one ever mentions the estimated one million poor souls stolen from these shores by North African slavers in the sixteenth and seventeenth century. What about the slaves taken for centuries from East Africa by the Arab slave traders? My advice would be stop looking backwards and start building good relationships with all the nations of the earth based mutual understanding and respect. The Dane-Geld that we pay to the EU ? Well Dave will be giving us a referendum on this. What do I think about the EU? I have moved from being a convinced Europhile to being deeply sceptical. The EU comes to resemble more and more the Holy Roman Empire that Omni-shambles on wheels that held back the development of central Europe for centuries and barely kept the Ottoman Turks at bay. |
