The govnt has made a commitment to spend I think 0.7% of GDP on overseas aid. It is one of the few developed countries to do so. This aims to help a range of poor and developing countries. It is also becoming more focused so for example the money spent on refugee camps bordering Syria or in this case the Jamaican prison Personal view is its a good thing and to be supported, its an explicit acknowledgement of global poverty and a (small) attempt to do something about it. Yes there are questions about how some of it is spent But we cant complain on the one hand about the migrant masses heading to Europe, and then ignore the real poverty and lack of opportunity many of these are fleeing. |
