Chris it is good to hear from you again and I'm very confident that were you still around the situation over the last two weekends would have been tackled more effectively. Part of that may be down to reduced resources for your successors but we all know that you genuinely cared about the area and that guided your actions. I think you are wrong to characterise this debate as one of 'sides'. If you exclude the dogmatic positions of people like Andy Pease and Thomas Barry you'll find most simply want to be assured that as much as possible was done to reduce disruption over the last two weekends. The bus lanes on Chiswick High Road that you were largely responsible for introducing seem to work well and local hostility towards them is not down to any delays they cause in traffic under normal circumstances but the opportunistic way they have been exploited for revenue collection. It is generally understood that you had nothing to do with the over-zealous enforcement on what has become Britain's most fined road. |
