I walked past lines of traffic yesterday observed the flow of traffic for a while. In principle a suspension of bus lanes might help particularly as this is a weekend closure and bus loadings are much lower. However, the main problems are on the stretch between Chiswick Roundabout and the junction with Acton Lane which is squeezed down to one lane eastbound periodically any way. So generally a bus lane suspension wouldn't help. However, there could be something done to clear the problems at the Acton Lane junction which seemed to be the main contributor to tailbacks all the way to Chiswick Roundabout. After this point traffic was flowing a little better. One immediately apparent problem that lots of traffic wanted to enter the left filter lane but was constrained from doing so. This resulted in a much longer single file of traffic in the right hand lane than was necessary including buses. I would suggest that a suspension of the bus lane westward up to Halfords would have significantly reduced journey times for all vehicles including buses. |
