"Not very often that the bridge needs repairing is it?" Exactly. Which is why I took the photos of what will soon be consigned to history. Spoke to the workers at both sets of traffic barriers on the approaches to Chiswick Bridge. They said the reaction from drivers had been 50-50. Half understanding that the work had to be done and half, at best, not being as understanding. The workers also made the point that most of those complaining had no idea just what a huge amount of work has been done to secure the bridge's future. And that the traffic problems would have been far worse in Chiswick had it not been carried out. I'm sure many people have heeded the closure warnings and while not a great experience for drivers, bus passengers and District Line customers to and from Richmond, this final closure will be over in a matter of hours. |
