I don't really understand the level of anger these works create, given they happen once in a blue moon. As much as we all like to criticise organisations like TfL and LBH in circumstances like this, saying that they should have planned for this eventuality and that eventuality, the same criticisms apply to us as individuals - we've known about these works for ages, so plan accordingly. On all of the affected weekends I've either not gone out in the car at all, or have made sure that whatever journey I needed to make by car was completed either early in the morning or later in the evening. In this day and age and in a city like London we really shouldn't be as reliant on private cars as we choose to be, and when we get stuck in gridlock that all us car drivers are directly contributing to, we really aren't in a position to complain. Same thing with parking in developments, so many people say there's not enough off-street parking provided, that's the whole point, less parking provision is the best way of reducing traffic/reliance on private car.
