I'm hoping to receive the wisdom of W4 forummers on the following. I have recently been diagnosed with degenerative disc disease in my lumbar 4/5 verterbrae. I am going on a weeks skiing holiday over the Christmas period and am fairly certain that my back will be painful when I am actually skiing. My consultant suggested I might want to have a steroid injection in my spine prior to the holiday. What I'm not certain of is whether this injection reduces the pain immediately and carries on over a period of weeks and thus would allow me to ski i.e. a sort of anaesthetising effect or whether it kicks into action only once pain is being experienced. I'm not certain if I've explained the issue well but if anyone out there has experience of these injections I would be most interested. |
