Thanks everyone! Very informative replies. I had in mind all this darkened flats especially the high rises on the river. The ones between Wandsworth and Vauxhall are particularly noticeable though we have them in Putney too. The sort of thing where only 2 flats in 10 or more are ever lit up. As I understand it the darkened flats are owned and never let and used as investments. They tend to be marketed to Far Eastern and Middle Eastern buyers who purchase unseen and off plan and rarely if ever visit. The absence of life has a deadening effect on the area and the economy and does little to reduce pressure on the housing market. It would be good to see more done to reduce it. |
