Properties over £2m all pay stamp duty at 7% on the whole value. Foreign buyers used to use companies to buy high end properties but there are now anti-avoidance measures, putting a property into a corporate vehicle attracts a charge of 15% of the fiull value, and there are annual charges for properties held in companies that increase according to the property value. So there already is an effective mansion tax and these measures are generating increasing revenues, as is stamps duty genrally. |
