Now the interesting stuff begins, with the rUK politicians skirting round the idea of what to do next. I got a flavour of it yesterday when I heard a fragment of a speech by Vince Cable in which he was talking about 'further devolution' for other parts of the UK. He referred without hesitation to Wales and Northern Ireland, but then, almost as an afterthought, dropped in a mention of 'London'. It seemed as though he couldn't actually bring himself to utter the word 'England'. I think this is going to be a feature of the coming debate, especially where Mr. Miliband is concerned, as he has a problem if English affairs are devolved to English MPs. As the old Chinese curse goes: 'May you live in interesting times'. |
