"we still can't have the Piccadilly line stopping at Turnham Green because there is no political will on the part of LT" It isn't because of "no political will", it is because with current ancient Piccadilly line signalling, peak time stopping at Turnham Green would reduce the frequency of service and therefore reduce the overall capacity of the line. I'm not sure what politician would be brave enough to apply "political will" and say "well I know the underground is bursting but we are going to reduce the capacity of the Piccadilly line and make tens of thousands of daily journeys more difficult for the sake of a small number of people at Turnham Green who want to save a few minutes". It is looking like the sequence of events will be: - District line re-signalling complete by about 2022 (it has been delayed by years because TfL's initial supplier couldn't deliver and then switching to a new supplier caused an additional 5 years delay) - Piccadilly line re-signalling complete by mid 2020's to allow a higher frequency service - District line re-signalling will allow a higher frequency service however there aren't enough trains to provide this on all branches, so Ealing branch of District line shuts and trains are moved on to Richmond and Wimbledon branches - Piccadilly line stops at Turnham Green (and likely Chiswick Park as well) to preserve connection between Chiswick and Ealing. So expect Piccadilly line stopping in Chiswick in the mid 2020s but for engineering and economic reasons, nothing to do with politics. |
