Yes, you don't need to drink alcohol in a pub - or a lot of it.  It is the social aspect that is important. They can be a great meeting place - especially if they do a good lunch - and thst doesn't necessarily mean a huge long boozy one - as far as I am concerned.  I remember a lot of really good work lunches in the Roebuck when working nearby.
