| Some of us might remember the introduction of supermarkets when shoppers were encouraged, nay, expected, to help themselves to items from the shelves, which we soon got the hang of. Of course it’s a business model that allows supermarkets to employ fewer and fewer staff such that they presumably now accept their losses from too much self-helping and pass the cost on to the rest of us. In which case it should really be other shoppers who take action against those not paying! Equally, there are many good reasons for banning the mass sale of cheap alcohol by supermarkets, but then our universal acceptance of alcohol despite the social problems it causes is a much wider issue. |
