It’s not just the appearance of these things; it’s the whole principle. Occasional docking rails on the pavement close to the kerb, or half-round bars fixed to posts would be more than adequate. The only reason councils want to plonk these things everywhere is because they acquire them free of charge, and then charge cyclists a fortune to keep a bike in space that, in many cases, has already been paid for by Resident Permit Holders who are already short of parking space. It’s an all-round rip-off; so we don’t even want nice looking ones, thank you. |
