Francis, It is a credit that you are defending your friend but if you and Paul think that cycling on the pavement is “far more practical and uncontentious” I think you are both very much mistaken. Paul’s analysis of Kew Bridge junction was totally mistaken He hadn’t even seen the new designs when he held forth on the problems he claimed they would create. The design changes weren’t anything to do with the cycle route crossing the South Circular at Wellesley Rd - they were because many people (including Hounslow Cycling) raised safety issues with the cycle lane at the bus stop by Kew Bridge Station and at the junction with Lionel Road South. This was clear from discussions with TfL engineers at the drop in sessions. The Wellesley Rd junction is not where the bottleneck is in this section of road.
