I don't think it mentions whether partners are also made for their offspring. " Well, one thing. There is absolutely no reference in Genesis to Able being married before Cain killed him. Cain's wife was one of either his sisters or his cousins. (See the verse I quoted to you before). You then say (and radically change the subject to suit your agenda) "Kind of academic given the level of make-believe involved in Genesis - Adam living to 930, no mention of dinosaurs or any other animal that had been knocking around for a few years before Adam, creating light before creating any source of light. I could go on... " Why do you think Genesis is make believe? What is your evidence? Just because dinosaurs aren't explicitly mentioned in the Bible - it doesn't mean they weren't there. Kittens aren't mentioned by name either - were they there? If so, what type? Tabby? black, russian blue?? Kind of irrelevant really. And they weren't being bred at that time either. If you are referring to Genesis when it says "And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and He separated the light from the darkness. God called the light "day," and the darkness he called "night." And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day. " And then later on day 4 God said ""Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark seasons and days and years, and let them be lights in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth." And it was so. God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. God set them in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth, to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day. " So yeah great question and this is a tricky one - however... all I know is that the light God created on day 1 - 'light' meaning 'fiat lux' - 'creation by fiat' or in the greek 'genēthētō phōs' - which means a metaphorical meaning of dispelling ignorance. So not so much literal light at this point - rather light that seems to give life to all that is life giving. So a light that gives life to the Sun - that gives light later on - its the power behind the power. Later on in the Bible - the same word is used in John 1:4 'In him (Jesus) was life, and that life was the light of men.' Literally meaning 'all that is life giving'. Also the same word is used in 2 Corinthians 4:6 'For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ." Light here meaning 'truth giving' Ecclesiastes 11:7 in the Old Testament says 'Light is sweet, and it pleases the eyes to see the sun. However many years a man may live, let him enjoy them all. But let him remember the days of darkness, for they will be many. Everything to come is meaningless. " Light here refers to "gladdening"...1 John 1:5-7 says 'This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin" Here the same word light refers to 'purity'... And finally (phew) the end times in Revelation 22:5 it says "There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever. The angel said to me, "These words are trustworthy and true. The Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets, sent his angel to show his servants the things that must soon take place." Meaning that - simlar to creation in the beginning - this marks the first step from chaos to order; and here the light you are talking about precedes the sun, so in the final vision here in Revelation - God's light even outlasts the sun. I guess the question we should be asking ourselves is not - what does the Sun power? But what powers the Sun? What gives life and power to those things that give us life? What gives life and power to the himan sense of right and wrong? Hence the debate a week on Saturday is so important. |
