Ok - back then there wasn't the development of disease, virus immunity, pollution in the evironment etc etc... People lived for longer. This has actually been scientifically tested - animals subject to a pure enironment and higher oxygen level in the air they breath have grown quicker and bigger, been stronger and lived longer. However, note the Bible verse - Genesis 6:3 God says, concerning average life spans "Then the LORD said, "My Spirit will not contend with man forever, for he is mortal ; his days will be a hundred and twenty years." In 2008, the average lifespan in UK was 79 years. You ask why, Nancy. "is there somewhere in the bible where God explains why he then reduced the expected lifetime of his creation's organs down ninefold and presumably invented cancer and other afflictions in order to make living beyond 120 pretty scientifically unlikely?" Why? Simple answer. Judgement for mans wrongdoing. But we don't like that idea today do we - as we are all perfect and if perfectly judged - we would all come out on tops... right??? |
