I'm not against air travel, and I'm not against the idea of a hub..... but just upwind of London is not the right place to have it (there seems to be some agreement here about that). I also think we should not waste the current investment in Heathrow... just make it work better within it's current constraints. I think it would be wise to pragmatically question the mix of flight types using the airport... see what opportunities that throws up. If Heathrow is being viewed as a business oriented gateway to London, can improvements be made by focussing on good performance in that area at the expense of off-loading some other activities? Terminals 1-4 need modernising / replacing / augmenting / streamlining / anything-ing! Baggage handling has to be made to work. My biggest fear is that the third runway goes ahead and BAA run the expanded operation as badly as they run what's there at the moment.... we'd all be losers then. |
