Richard, It is hard to separate bikes and buses and I don't have experience of foreign cities that have managed it. If you think that segregated routes are the answer then try the A4. Apart from the problem of the umpteen variations of bus stop/cycle path interaction, the problem is that people waiting for buses stand in or dawdle all over the cycle path, or the buses pull up just in front of you and disgorge their load of people into your path - Don't even get me started about the places where the bus stop and cycle path share space so you have to give way to a bus coming up behind you, and the bus drivers expect the cyclist to give way. In London in general, there just isn't space for segregated cycle routes. |
