David, To judge boris in action it will need more time but so far he hasnt done or announced anything that has given me hope. The only good thing so far is get rid of the Londoner but to claim this is a major green step is, quite frankly, bad politics. Tree planting is an easy green gesture and should be happening regardless. Then there's the water plant thread on this group. So far so, urm not sure. He brought in a Telegraph journalist to look into corruption and has brought in a financial banker to look into how to make better use of public funds. From my experience the roles and the tasks given don't match up. Journalists don't tend to make good trouble shooters and purely financial backgrounds don't match well with organisations where there is often no recordable effect for money spent. The 80's lead to the expectation that on public systems you can put in ways to measure success using a few metrics, as you can with , say, the prodution of corn flakes. It's not the same thing. I live in London. I want to see Boris do well as it makes no sense for me to want to wish the place I live in ill. For Boris to be a good mayor he needs to be inclusive, and so far he's stuck to right wing ideas and advisers. There will be things he does that I will agree with, at least I hope so, but so far there's little I can. For example banning drinking on the underground - really isnt going to stop drunks on the underground and is a negative rather than positive action. Banning, stopping, limiting etc is also very easy to do and save money. Boris can very very easily spend less than Ken simply by doing less. Ken was doing a lot and had a lot of iniatives in place, many of which worked in social terms, not financial. So it's not about supporting Boris, just knowing he's not going to mess up. So far I hold judgement as I don't know how things will pan out, but so far the signs don't strike me as good. You on the other hand manage to get most things wrong. Like I said, if you want me and others to give Boris a chance you would think before your post and stop coming across as a teenage fanboy for anything right of the tories. |
