Andrew. First it's not those who drink on the tube that cause problems, often, it's people who HAVE drunk then get on the tube. Nearly all those drinking on the tube are going to somewhere, like a club, or having a stress buster after work. Personaly I don't see it making much difference and doesnt have a negative effect if people stop drinking BUT it is an authoritian move that could set a trend. Banning things is easy compared to positive moves. In terms of water - the problem has been discussed and the desalination plant will only cover a fraction of the water lost through bad infrastructure. The original idea was to force the water companies to get the infrastructure working, just as the effort was to get the tube infrastructure working rather than creating lazy show case 'edge' solutions that run over budget and don't actualy solve the problem. It's like buying a new TV to get a better picture when the ariel is the bit that is broken. And I thought right wing folks where big on 'common sense'. |
