| It's not just me saying it. I suggest you look at the latest House of Commons Library briefing, Poverty in the UK: Statistics. I quote: "2020/21 and 2021/22 poverty statistics are less reliable than usual. Data for 2020/21 and some data for 2021/22 was collected during coronavirus lockdowns, and the DWP’s HBAI technical report explains this affected the reliability of the data. The DWP judged the 2020/21 data to be too unreliable to publish the usual detailed data breakdowns. This means some time series charts in this briefing show a gap in the data in 2020/21. The DWP said data for 2021/22 are more reliable than 2020/21, so have published all the detailed breakdowns, but advised caution when making comparisons with previous years." As to the future, that's anyone's guess, but nothing in the record of Conservative Governments over more than a decade suggests that matters will improve, particularly if Hunt and Sunak remain obsessed with debt reduction. Enough of your sophistry! Don't use my obvious inability to furnish evidence about what will happen in the future - it's the future, and I'm not mystic Meg! All your bluster is just a cover for the fact that you won't admit that, except for the anomaly of 2020/21, child poverty under the Conservatives has been at a higher level than for much of the previous administration. |
