| The conservative party is imploding. And the problems in the national party are also reflected more locally. Until recently I was a member of the party, but I have now resigned my membership in disgust. The local association was acting in a way that made it abundantly clear that anyone not thinking exactly as the leadership of the association thought needed to be alienated and ignored. Not exactly a beacon of progressive or inclusive values! When I was systemically removed from groups and chats and my membership was downgraded, without any warning, without any recourse, and without opportunity to state my case, I complained to other local officers (and at least one elected councillor). In each case (6 times in total) I was ignored. My complaint went unheard. No remedial action was taken. Frankly I don’t think that any of them could be bothered. To reiterate, hardly a beacon of progressive or inclusive values! I even tried to take part in the way they wanted. My efforts went unrecognised, unnoticed and there was no attempt to make me feel welcome or ‘part of the club.’ I was left feeling that my membership counted for nothing other than the financial contribution I made to their coffers. At that point I’d had enough and quit. So watching the implosion of the national party now feels like Karma. Based on my personal experiences, the Conservative Party is getting its just desserts. |
